The wine e-label that also scans at checkout
Put ingredients and nutrition behind one GS1 QR code. Shoppers see the headings and nutrition in their own language, the till reads your barcode number, and the code keeps working after you print.

What goes where
Since 8 December 2023, wine sold in the EU has to show its ingredients and a nutrition declaration. Part of it may move behind a QR code.
On the bottle
- The energy value (the symbol E is allowed)
- Allergens such as sulphites
- The word "Ingredients" next to the code: a symbol alone is not enough
Behind the code
- The full list of ingredients
- The full nutrition declaration per 100 ml
- Headings and nutrition terms in the shopper’s language
- No marketing and no tracking on that page
Based on Regulation (EU) 2021/2117 and the European Commission’s notice C/2023/1190. This is a summary, not legal advice: check the details for your wine with your trade association.
What one code does for you
Scans at the checkout
The code carries your barcode number as a GS1 Digital Link, so 2D scanners at the till ring it up like your EAN.
Speaks all 24 EU languages
Shoppers read your label in their own language, in any of the 24 EU languages, with the official EU nutrition terms.
Recalls per lot
Flag one lot and only those bottles show a recall notice. Every other lot keeps its normal label.
Never switches off
Printed codes keep working if you cancel. Many QR services switch codes off when the subscription ends.
Scan a sample bottle
Point your phone at a code. Then switch on the recall to see what shoppers see for a recalled lot.

Questions from wineries
Do I still need to print the energy value?
Yes. Energy (the symbol E is allowed) and allergens stay on the label. The ingredient list and the full nutrition table can move behind the code.
Can the e-label page show our story or our other wines?
No. The page behind the code may not contain marketing or collect data about the shopper. Backlabel keeps it to ingredients and nutrition.
Does it work for alcohol-free wine?
Yes. Dealcoholised and partly dealcoholised wines follow the wine rules, so they can use the same e-label.
What happens to my codes if I stop paying?
They keep working. Every code keeps pointing to the last page you published. Cancelling only stops you from adding new products.
