QR code size checker
Check whether the QR code on your label is big enough for checkout scanners, using GS1’s module sizes for retail.
33 × 33 modules (version 4) · one module is 0.606 mm
Good for checkout scanners: at or above GS1’s target of 0.495 mm per module.
- For this link, print the code between 13.1 and 32.7 mm wide. GS1’s target is 16.3 mm.
- Leave 2.4 mm of white margin on every side, 24.8 mm wide in total.

How the size is worked out
A QR code is a grid of small squares called modules. A longer link needs more of them. The tool counts the modules for your link and divides the printed width by that number.
For checkout scanners, GS1 sets a module size of at least 0.396 mm, a target of 0.495 mm and a maximum of 0.990 mm, with a white margin of four modules on every side. Source: GS1, 2D barcodes at retail point-of-sale implementation guideline.
To make the code smaller
Use a short domain. Every character counts.
Leave tracking parameters out of the link.
Keep error correction at M unless the code sits on a rough or curved surface.
Never shrink the white margin to save space: scanners need it.
Codes that fit the label
Backlabel makes GS1 QR codes with your EU e-label behind them. They keep working after you print.
