The spirits sector agreed to show energy on the label and ingredients online. Backlabel puts that page behind a GS1 QR code that also scans at checkout.

The sector’s commitment, in practice
Spirits are exempt from the EU’s ingredient and nutrition rules. In 2019 the sector committed to show energy on the bottle and ingredients online. Large producers are above 90 %, while small French producers were at about 35 % in the 2026 progress report.

Scans at the checkout
The code carries your barcode number as a GS1 Digital Link, so 2D scanners at the till ring it up like your EAN.
Speaks all 24 EU languages
Shoppers read your label in their own language, in any of the 24 EU languages, with the official EU nutrition terms.
Recalls per lot
Flag one lot and only those bottles show a recall notice. Every other lot keeps its normal label.
Never switches off
Printed codes keep working if you cancel. Many QR services switch codes off when the subscription ends.

Questions from distilleries
Is an e-label mandatory for spirits?
Not under EU law today. The sector committed in 2019 to give ingredients online and energy on the label, and reports on it every year.
Do I need a full nutrition table?
Not by law: drinks above 1.2 % vol may limit the nutrition declaration to the energy value. Backlabel’s e-label shows the full table, so you fill in every value.
What happens to my codes if I stop paying?
They keep working. Every code keeps pointing to the last page you published. Cancelling only stops you from adding new products.
